“Our campus community prides itself on caring, and we need to live this value every day for ourselves and each other. Each of you contributes to our community and our students’ success, and I want you to know I care about you and deeply appreciate all that you do. Let’s make this year a time to reengage, find our passions, and make wellness a top priority for our Mean Green Family.”– President Neal Smatresk

Wellness

Focusing on the physical, social and mental wellbeing of our university community is a top priority. We have gathered together many wellbeing-related resources available for our community members to ensure students, faculty and staff have convenient access to needed resources for themselves and to share with students or colleagues in need.
Wellness is being healthy in all dimensions of our lives and a lifelong process of making decisions that lead to a more balanced and meaningful life, not just avoiding illness. At UNT, we focus on the following nine interconnected dimensions of wellness: physical, social, emotional, environmental, intellectual, occupational, creative, financial, spiritual

Wellness Wheel

The Wellness Wheel illustrates the interconnectedness of these nine dimensions. Because the dimensions are connected, imbalance in one area of the wheel might inhibit you from reaching holistic wellbeing. An individual can use the Wellness Wheel as a tool to focus on their wellness by identifying the dimensions in their life upon which they would like to improve. By giving greater attention to one or more dimensions that need improvement, you also can help restore your balance in others. For example, attending a yoga class not only strengthens your body (physical) but also positively impacts your mental health (emotional) by helping to de-stress.
It can be overwhelming to work on all nine dimensions at the same time, so start by identifying which dimension you would like to focus on first.

Wellness Advisory Board

The Wellness Advisory Board consists of wellness champions from across the university. The board will examine contemporary and emerging employee wellness topics in the context of UNT, bring wellness-related ideas forward, and help develop solutions for relevant and meaningful progress to advance overall employee wellbeing.
